Winter Shelter Resources
Allegheny County’s winter shelter plan starts November 15, 2025.
- Single shelters will have overflow spaces available. Find the full list of shelters by clicking the “Find a Shelter or Engagement Center” button above.
- DHS will open a winter shelter located at the Community Resource Mall at 2610 Maple Avenue on the North Side. Free transportation to the Winter Shelter will be available each evening from Second Avenue Commons. Return transportation each morning to Second Avenue Commons will also be available.

Cooling Centers
In warm weather months, Allegheny County implements a Code Red plan and opens cooling centers. Code Red Heat Advisories are issued when extreme heat poses a serious risk to your health – especially for older adults, children, and people with medical conditions.
