If you are a single individual with nowhere safe to sleep this evening, you may access an emergency shelter.

Winter Shelter Resources

Allegheny County’s winter shelter plan starts November 15, 2025.

  • Single shelters will have overflow spaces available. Find the full list of shelters by clicking the “Find a Shelter or Engagement Center” button above.
  • DHS will open a winter shelter located at the Community Resource Mall at 2610 Maple Avenue on the North Side. Free transportation to the Winter Shelter will be available each evening from Second Avenue Commons. Return transportation each morning to Second Avenue Commons will also be available.

Community partners can help spread the word about DHS’s winter shelter plan by sharing our flyer.

These locations are open at various times in the day for various populations and offer various services.

Cooling Centers

In warm weather months, Allegheny County implements a Code Red plan and opens cooling centers. Code Red Heat Advisories are issued when extreme heat poses a serious risk to your health – especially for older adults, children, and people with medical conditions.

Some supports are only available to specific individuals. If you’re a young or older adult, a veteran, an immigrant or identify as LGBTQIA+, look for these lightbulbs throughout the site.
