Take Action to Avoid Losing SNAP benefits
Federal changes to SNAP benefits are now in effect. As of September 1, 2025, most adults on SNAP are now required to either work at least 20 hours/week or qualify for an exemption. People who do not appropriately document that they meet these conditions can only receive 3 months of benefits over a 3-year period – meaning, benefits will run out in December 2025.
SNAP recipients ages 18-64 will need to take the following actions:
- Complete the PA DHS Screening Form Checklist (mailed to you by PA DHS; also can be found here)
- If health limits your work, have your doctor or therapist sign the Medical Exemption Form
- Return the Screening Form and proof to a local County Assistance Office. (Please note: the CAO is operated at the state level by the PA Department of Human Services.)
Important notes:
-
- The best way to do this is through the myCOMPASS PA app
- Include the case number if returning in person, by mail, or by fax
- Ensure your address is updated on COMPASS (or call a CAO to update it) in case the state requests documentation from you to prove your exemption.
To help navigate these steps, please call Just Harvest at 412-431-8960 (option 3). You will need to leave a message, and your call will be returned. Additional details about who needs to take action, and when, can be found on the PA DHS website.
