Ongoing support for substance use
Start with your health insurer
If you have private health insurance, look at the back of your insurance card for a phone number for drug and alcohol services (may also be called “behavioral health services”). Call and ask if assessments are covered and if you’re referred to treatment, what treatments are covered and for how long.
Overdose prevention
Start with Naloxone (brand name is Narcan)
If you or someone you know uses opioids in any form, keep naloxone somewhere easy to grab. Seconds matter. Naloxone is not harmful if accidentally taken or if no opioids are present in the person’s body.
Any resident of Pennsylvania can legally purchase naloxone at any pharmacy. You can also get it by contacting Prevention Point Pittsburgh.
